Mesospheric clouds on Earth and Mars

Monday, 21 July 2014, 15:30-0:00
KIT, Campus Nord, IMK-AAF, Gebäude 326, Raum 150
The mesospheres of Earth and Mars provide a unique environment for studying the interaction of CO2 and H2O. This talk looks at the trapping of CO2 within a H2O matrix at low temperature and pressure conditions using a UHV chamber. An overview is also provided into the unusual phenomena of mesospheric CO2 clouds on mars including planned CO2 ice nucleation growth experiments on meteoric smoke particle analogues using the TRAPS instrument at KIT.
