Current Research (Atmospheric Surface-Science)

  • Molecular level investigations of atmospheric photochemistry (e.g. the emission of VOCs from the sea surface microlayer (SML) under the effect of sunlight) using Nonlinear Optical Spectroscopy and Mass Spectroscopy

  • Studying water- and ice-aerosol interactions on the molecular level using nonlinear optical spectroscopy to understand the criteria of formation of different types of clouds, which in turn has its influence on climate change.

Recent Research

  • Investigating the microphysical and optical properties of ice crystals to help understanding the radiation balance in atmosphere. Studies on Pre-defined clouds are being carried at the AIDA cloud simulation chamber and in situ studies are done with research aircrafts and at high altitude environmental research stations. more
  • Development and application of a novel airborne instrument (PHIPS-HALO) for in situ cloud research. more.
